Leather Sofa Beds – A Rundown

There are few materials that look and feel as luxurious as leather, which may be why it has become such a popular choice of material for people looking to add a touch of elegance to their living space. Normally that means purchasing an entire living room suite, but your entire room can be given an upgraded look by the addition of a simple leather sofa bed. This is a piece of furniture that is becoming increasingly popular among those that have limited seating and sleeping space, yet who like to entertain and have guests stay over. The sofa bed is a versatile piece of furniture, and that leather option can really take it to the next level.

It’s one thing to choose leather as a symbol of wealth and status, but it also has to fit into the aesthetic of your home, and that can be achieved by opting for a colour that suits what you already have going on in the space where it will be placed. Black is the most popular colour and one that can fit into just about any color scheme; many designers will actually tell you that a touch of black in any space is a good idea.

Another major reason to go with a leather sofa bed is that it is far easier to maintain and clean than the fabric alternative, with most spills requiring nothing more than a paper towel mop up to maintain the integrity of the fabric.

That’s not to say that leather is for everyone, and those on a tight budget may have a difficult time justifying the additional price that a cheap leather sofa bed commands. Also, if your sofa bed is being purchased to be placed in a spare room or seldom used area, it may be a waste of money to spend extra cash on a visually appealing piece that may not necessarily be seen on a regular basis. Another disadvantage is one that car owners with leather seats may recognize; when it gets hot, leather can become a sticky heat sucking material that becomes uncomfortable to sit on, but here in the UK we don’t really have that many hot days where that will be an issue!

There is a lot of talk about the additional expense of leather, but that can be negated by going the sofa bed route, especially if you were initially in the market for a separate sofa and bed. Going with a leather sofa bed means killing two birds with one stone, and stretching your budget to include leather whilst still saving a few pounds. Like any purchase, it all comes down to personal choice, but when it comes to making a statement in your design, leather speaks the loudest.
